JACKSON – An inmate serving life for a kidnap and rape that occurred 22 years ago in Harrison County has died in prison.

Kevin Keith Russell, 50, was pronounced dead Sunday at the Mississippi State Penitentiary hospital, where he had been for several days.

He had a terminal illness, according to the county coroner. An autopsy, however, will provide the official cause and manner of death.

Russell, MDOC #K3887, was sentenced as a habitual offender on Sept. 1, 2000.
