House Bill 1 has been sent to the governor for his signature. It would divert, every year, a portion of internet sales tax collections—earmarked for infrastructure—to counties and cities in the following (approximate) amounts:
Covington County – $520,000
Simpson County – $603,000
Jeff Davis County – $477,000
City of Collins – $134,000
Town of Mt. Olive – $32,000
Town of Seminary – $24,000
City of Magee – $195,000
Town of Bassfield – $22,000
City of Prentiss – $50,000
The amounts are based on the population of the municipality/county, miles of county roads (for counties), and existing sales tax revenues (for municipalities). This is long overdue and will be a big benefit to communities all across Mississippi.
