Several businesses in Magee received a garbage rate increase in March according to Mayor Dale Berry.
The rate increase came after months of study and discussion with the City Works department. The Board of Aldermen approved the increase.
Residential garbage pick up stayed at $13 even thought the city is losing money at that price.
Most of the business went from $19 to $30 although business with larger amounts of trash and frequent pick ups saw a greater increase.
Mayor Berry stated, “if people (businesses) don’t like the price they can contact Waste Management or Republic Disposal. I think their rates are $275-$500 per month with pickup once a week.”
If you feel your garbage bill increase is unfair, stop by City Hall.
