I’m absolutely heartbroken for our kids, especially our seniors. The loss was gut wrenching, we did not trail in the game until under a minute left. We were up 34-16 with 5:44 and Noxubee seemed to get every break. You aren’t supposed to lose those. I thought our game plan and execution was almost flawless. We were forced to play our back up qb, Akavion Griffith, because of injury and he was great. I feel horrible for Kendal Middleton who has led us as the starter for 2 years. Not being able to play, I know was tough to stomach for him. We won the turnover battle. There was an onside kick Noxubee was able to recover and scored really quickly off of it. We needed to convert some first downs to eat clock when we got the ball back, but Noxubee was playing really inspired at that point.
There game winning drive was really frustrating, there was a false start on a wr that was not called, that play led to the game winning score. The game winning touchdown was on a 4th and 13.
If you look at totality of the game, I have to just be content to say it wasn’t meant to be, because I could torture myself with all the should haves or could haves. It will take a while to digest this game, but perspective comes with time and there was a lot of great things this team did.
They exceeded expectations after going 4-8 the year before.
They beat every team that beat them the year before, won a district championship, and had an undefeated regular season. We left it all on the field Friday, and I can feel good about that. This was a magical year to be my first as the head guy. It’s hard for me to enjoy the wins as much as I should because you can’t afford not to look forward and that’s what I’m already doing. I’m getting for next year today. #GBR
