Ida Sue Grubbs Herrin passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 5. She was born to Solomon Monroe and Mattie Lula Weathersby Grubbs on December 17, 1928.

She grew up in a loving home with four brothers- J. B. Grubbs, Earl Grubbs, Shelby Grubbs, Troy Grubbs, and one sister Carolyn Grubbs, in the Stonewall community in Simpson County. She attended Pinola High School where she loved and excelled on the basketball court. After graduation, she moved to Jackson, MS, and began work with South Central Bell Telephone Company. It was there she met and fell in love with Loyal Bern Herrin, and they were married on May 15, 1956. It was her true calling to be a wife, mother, and Mammie. She loved and nurtured her family. Most importantly, she showed us what it looked like to love God and love people. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as director of the WMU for many years.

In 1979, she began her second career at Simpson Academy. This was her second true calling. She, without a doubt, loved every teacher and student at SCA, for all the years she was there. Her nurturing spirit endeared her to the students and the students to her – she was their school mom.

For the last 6 years, she resided at Strong River Villa Assisted Living. Words are just insufficient to express the love and appreciation to ALL the SRV staff.  The level of love and care provided to her was a God blessing to them. To Faith Kennedy and ALL the ladies at SRV, the family sends their love and thanks to you with all their heart.

She is survived by sons Jeff (Stacey) Herrin, Tony Herrin, daughter Sandra Herrin, grandchildren, Mark (Christa) Herrin, Mason (Kaleigh) Herrin, Hailey Herrin, Shelby (Ayoub) Hammami, and great-grandchildren, Madi Herrin and John Mark Herrin.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Tutor Funeral Home, Hwy 13, Mendenhall, MS.  Service will be held on Wednesday, February 9 at 10:00 AM, also at Tutor Funeral Home.  Bro. Bryan Shufelt, Bro. Lance Varner and Bro. Chris Rankin will officiate.
