HYDE-SMITH VOTES TO SEND FY2026 DEFENSE POLICY BILL TO PRESIDENT TRUMP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today voted for final passage of a major defense policy bill that sets the stage for President Trump to accelerate his Peace Through Strength national security agenda.

The Senate made the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) available for President Trump’s signature with a 77-20 vote for final passage of a bill that implements policy reforms and authorizes appropriations for defense and national security activities.

“Our nation has always contended with new threats to our national security, but the scope of those threats escalates with every technological advance and the prospect of our adversaries getting their hands on those technologies.  This NDAA bill, aligned with President Trump’s Peace Through Strength agenda, begins to pivot our military to meet these evolving threats,” Hyde-Smith said.

The FY2026 NDAA (S.1071) authorizes Pentagon budgeting and acquisition reforms, additional shipbuilding funding, and a 3.8 percent pay raise for military members.  It also authorizes funding for the nation’s nuclear weapons programs and military construction and family housing projects.

Hyde-Smith serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA).  The FY2026 MilCon-VA Appropriations Bill, which includes $60 million for Mississippi projects, became law in November as part of the continuing resolution to end the Schumer government shutdown.

Efforts continue to reach an agreement to allow the Senate to pass the FY2026 Defense Appropriations Bill, which has been available for Senate consideration since December.  This measure would provide actual funding to national defense projects in Mississippi.
