HYDE-SMITH DISMISSES BIDEN BORDER EXECUTIVE ORDER AS ‘ELECTION-YEAR RUSE’

Senator Says Order Won’t Halt Crossings, Close Asylum Loopholes, or Finish the Border Wall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), who serves on the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today castigated an executive order signed by President Biden regarding illegal immigration—a belated acknowledgment that U.S. border security has been breached since he took office.

“President Biden’s border executive order is no more than an election-year ruse that will do little to lessen the effects of his disastrous policies.  He is basically just dimming the wattage of the giant ‘OPEN’ sign that has allowed millions of illegal crossings.  This order won’t close asylum loop holes, it won’t finish the border wall, and it won’t end catch-and-release, meaning our country will still have tens of thousands crossing the border,” Hyde-Smith said.  “I’m not buying this executive order issued by a politically-desperate administration that has for too long refused to acknowledge the crisis it created.”

Hyde-Smith, who has visited the southern border in recent years, pointed out that the executive order follows last month’s sham vote intended to give Senate Democrats political coverage for the failed border security and immigration policies they’ve supported and defended since January 2021.

Almost a year ago, Hyde-Smith cosponsored a resolution to overturn President Biden’s Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule, purportedly issued to signal a hard line on illegal migration.  In truth, the rule is riddled with exceptions and funnels migrants into unlawful parole programs that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security established without congressional consent to allow more migrants with weak or non-existent asylum claims to enter the United States.
