WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today honored Diane Adkins of Coldwater, named a 2019 “Angel in Adoption” for her work to find safe and loving homes for children in Mississippi.

Hyde-Smith nominated Adkins for the honor as part of the annual Angels in Adoption program sponsored by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).

“Diane’s inspirational work on behalf of children in need is deserving of the Angels in Adoption honor.  In finding safe and loving homes for children, she has also opened her home to mothers, infants, and adoptive families who needed shelter,” said Hyde-Smith, a member of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption.

“I regret that Diane cannot make it to Washington this week, but she should know that our appreciation of her is undiminished,” she said.

Adkins, a Tate County mother and grandmother, has served as a foster parent to infants for more than 20 years, first with Bethany Christian Services and later with New Beginnings International Children’s and Family Services, Inc.  Her service has included accepting and caring for infants with special needs and medically fragile children.

“Angels in Adoption” from across the nation are being honored by the CCAI during events in Washington this week.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan CCAI advocates for increased awareness about children in need of a stable home environment and supports eliminating barriers to adoption.  CCAI, which does not receive government funding, was established in 2001 as an outgrowth of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption.
