“Come on In, The Water Is Fine”
Howard Wayne Walker, the Doobee, 68, of Mendenhall, MS, passed away at his residence on September 24, 2023. He was born on February 15, 1955, to Castle Norvell Walker and Ernestine McWilliams Walker in Cleveland, MS, and raised in Linn, MS.
He is survived by his best friend, Renee Barnett, his honey; sons, Joe Frank Walker, the Franker (April) and Justin Walker, the Dog (Dena); daughter, Michelle Gregory, his Miss Lilly (Blaine); seven grandchildren, Browning, Bear, Lyda, Bates, Walker, Hayes, and Nolan Grae; nephew, Toot Walker; niece, Wendy Raper and so many friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Castle and Ernestine Walker, and brothers, Norvell Walker, Billy Joe Walker, Forrest Gene Walker, and Van Springer (Socrate).
Wayne spent his early days working the fields in the Delta, growing soybeans, rice, wheat, and many other crops. Farming was his passion in life, and he was gifted with the ability to grow things like no one else. After he retired from farming, he moved to Mendenhall, MS, with his honey, Renee, and spent his days enjoying life. Sometimes, those days would include working in the garden, working in the yard, or simply rocking in his chair on the porch with his honey, family, and friends. To know Wayne was to love him. He had the best smile that would turn any bad day into a good one and a laugh that warmed your soul. Wayne loved the Lord and thanked the Lord every single day for all the many blessings he was given, even on the hardest days. His faith in God was unwavering. Wayne will be missed by so many family and friends, but his legacy will live on through all of those who knew him.
