This week is Dispatcher Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to thank all the dispatchers who leave their families to work long 12-hour shifts listening, typing, and relaying calls of distress to our officers. You are the first line of defense. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to respond to emergencies or get help to those in need.
You hear trauma unfold over the phone, yet you remain calm and composed. You are the voices of reassurance during someone’s worst moments. You guide them while they’re panicking, screaming, or crying, trying to get the information needed to send help. Your hearts race as you check on officers during dangerous calls, hoping to hear them respond. You’re the ones who dispatch the ambulance to a death call, the fire truck to a burning home, and the officers to a break-in.
You do all this behind the scenes, and far too often, without the recognition you deserve. Thank you for everything you do. Happy Dispatcher Appreciation Week! You truly are the calm in the chaos.
