There are few things more important than being surrounded by family during the holidays. Unfortunately, there are times this may seem impossible. Thanks to American Medical Response Ambulance Service (AMR) and Bedford Care Center in Mendenhall the impossible became possible! This Thanksgiving Ms. Elizabeth Foster was able to go home to the warmth and love of her family making memories that will last a lifetime.
Every year AMR sponsors a program called “Home for the Holiday” where they provide round trip transportation allowing a resident of a care facility the opportunity to go home for Thanksgiving Day. These care facilities are able to submit an application for one resident who has interest in going home but would not be able to go without the assistance of this program.
This is the first year Bedford Care Center of Mendenhall has had a resident selected to participate in the Home for the Holiday program. The facility Administrator, Amanda Kirk, said, “This is a fabulous program that provides such a special service. Our resident who was chosen has had quite a challenging year and we felt that that her being able to go home for the holiday would be the perfect way to lift her spirits”.
Bedford Care Center of Mendenhall is a 60-bed nursing and rehabilitation center located beside Simpson General Hospital. The facility offers services to meet the physical, emotional, nutritional, and rehabilitation needs for members of the community who need short or long term care. The rehabilitative care includes moderate to aggressive physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. These services combined with 24 hour nursing care allow members of our community to receive the needed care to return back to their home.
