Monroeville, PA

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Colonial Chapel, Magee, MS for Dr. Hilda Howell, 95, of Monroeville, PA, with Rev. S.L. “Sonny” Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Alex Sullivan cemetery, Mize, MS. She died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Arden Courts, Monroeville, PA.

She was a graduate of Monticello High School, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Louisiana State University and the University of Florida. She was employed for many years as a research chemist for Koppers Co., Pittsburgh, PA, resulting in seventeen patents to her credit. She was a founding member of Monroeville Community Church in Monroeville, PA, where she also served as music director for several years. She enjoyed reading, music and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Eula Howell, and six siblings: Pruitt Howell, twins Fannie Mae Smith (Norman) of Omega, GA and Annie Ray Hammons (Ray) of Tifton, GA, Virginia Canterbury (Macel) of Gautier, MS, M.L. “Lee” Howell (Angie) of Brandon, MS, and L.H. “Jack” Howell (Mary) of Woodville, MS. She is survived by her sister, Dixie Adkins (Bernell) of Union, MS, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at Colonial Chapel, Magee, MS.
