MAGEE, Miss. — Residents across Magee and Simpson County should prepare for another dangerously hot day as a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters say heat index values could climb as high as 110 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for hot and humid conditions with a high near 96 degrees. While sunshine will dominate much of the day, a stray afternoon or evening thunderstorm cannot be ruled out. Warm overnight temperatures in the mid-70s will offer little relief from the heat.
The combination of high temperatures and oppressive humidity significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Officials encourage everyone to drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces if working outside.
Residents are also encouraged to check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without adequate cooling. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
The hot and humid pattern is expected to continue through the remainder of the week, with daily highs remaining in the mid-90s and scattered afternoon thunderstorms possible.
