The Scriptural passage selected for today is found in Psalm 40:1-2: “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Amen! Like the psalmist, those of us who claim to be Christian can claim the same assurance and testimony. We know personally of the power of the Lord to be our firm Foundation, our Rock of ages, our Anchor. Out of the depths of our despair, He hears our cries for help. He provides us with the strength needed to overcome our trials and losses, as well as the grace to sustain and comfort us. “Rock of ages, cleft for me. Let me hide myself in Thee. Let the water and the blood from Thy wounded side which flowed. Be of sin the double cure. Save from wrath and make me pure.” Then, my favorite, the last verse: “While I draw this fleeting breath. When my eyes shall close in death. When I rise to worlds unknown and behold Thee on Thy throne. Rock of ages, cleft for me. Let me hide myself in Thee.” To me, it’s one of the most inspired hymns ever penned.
