Hallie Sue Garner Ellzy, 84, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936, in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Graveside Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 17, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Merit, Mississippi. Bro. Earl Clark and Bro. Frank Harmon will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031

She was preceded in death by parents Dewey W. Smith, Sr. and Lena Mae Coleman Smith; and her husbands, Hugh White Garner (d. 1995) and Albert Ellzy, Jr. (d. 2014); and her brothers, Dewey W. Smith, Jr. and James L. Smith, Sr.

Survivors include her daughter, Nita Garner Turner (Mark) of Mendenhall, Mississippi; and her grandchildren, Marla Turner Chapman (Jacob) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Mark A. “Mat” Turner, Jr. (Adrian) of Mendenhall, Mississippi, and Alana Joy Turner of Starkville, Mississippi; and her great-grandchildren, Julianne Elizabeth Chapman and Joseph Alan Chapman of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and her brother, Carol L. Smith of Florence, Mississippi, and her niece Nicole Smith Rhoden; and her nephews, Lee D. Smith and James L. Smith, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Mat Turner, Jacob Chapman, Craig Dukes, Donald Whiteley, Witt Fortenberry, and Britt Magee
