Guest Officially Calls for Congressional Investigation into FBI Raid at Mar-a-Lago

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) sent a letter to the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform calling for the committees to conduct investigational hearings regarding the FBI’s recent raid at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home to ensure proper Congressional oversight. The letter follows Congressman Guest’s statement released last night wherein he calls for a Congressional inquiry into the FBI’s actions.

Below, you will find the full text of the letter along with Congressman Guest’s statement following the news of the raid. You can find a link to the letter here and a link to Congressman Guest’s statement released on Twitter here.

Dear Chairman Nadler and Chairwoman Maloney:

I am deeply troubled by the raid conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. I urge your committees to conduct immediate investigational hearings to ensure proper Congressional oversight of this matter.

On Monday, August 8, 2022, the FBI entered Mar-a-Lago and seized boxes of materials from President Trump’s property. However, little is known yet of the rationale, legal basis under which the FBI acted, or other details surrounding this unprecedented decision.

The American people are rightly concerned about the Department of Justice’s motivations for executing a search in a former President’s home and the standard this event sets for our Federal government and political system moving forward. Therefore, it is critical for Congress to perform our essential oversight responsibilities and work to obtain needed answers.

To preserve the trust of the American people in our judicial system, these hearings should take top priority and should be conducted immediately. Please let me know what I can do to expedite these proceedings.

Congressman Guest’s statement released following the news of the raid:

“As a former prosecutor I am extremely troubled by the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago. This administration has failed to secure our borders and to stop out of control violent crime and has instead targeted the former President with their law enforcement resources. The American people are questioning the motivation behind this unprecedented raid, and I will be calling for an immediate Congressional inquiry into these actions to get answers,” Guest said.
