Guest Joins Bipartisan Group in Rebuke of Progressive’s Attempts to Undermine Israeli Defensive Systems
Bipartisan group rejects House Progressive Caucus’s moves to defund Iron Dome – a defensive system that protects Israeli citizens from rocket attacks from terrorist groups like Hamas.
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Guest (MS-03) voted in favor of the Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2022. This bill would provide $1 billion for the Iron Dome defense systems, funding that Progressive House Members forced Democrats to remove from the Continuing Resolution that was considered in the House of Representatives earlier this week.
“This is not a vote of military aggression, but one to save the innocent lives of our closest allies in the Middle East. I am deeply troubled that Progressive Democrats would undermine America’s mission of defending our allies against terrorism,” Guest said.
“However, I am grateful that the defense of our allies is still an issue many Democrats and Republicans can agree on,” Guest continued. “With today’s vote, America has confirmed that we stand with our ally, Israel. But more importantly, we have supported Israel’s defensive assets that will save hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens of all faiths from attacks by Palestinian terrorists and other terrorist groups.”
Earlier this year, Congressman Guest offered a similar bill that would have redirected funds intended for Gaza to instead replenish the Iron Dome Defense System. The legislation came in response to another Progressive move to undermine the safety of Israeli citizens by blocking the transfer of military assets, including Iron Dome Missiles, to Israel. As a strictly defensive military asset, rockets purposed for use by the Iron Dome would be used to protect Israeli citizens from missile barrages and are not intended for offensive military operations.
According to its developer, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Iron Dome has a missile interception success rate of 90% since its deployment in 2011. According to a video shared by the Israel Defense Forces Twitter page that displays the use of the Iron Dome to intercept missiles, over 4,000 rockets were fired at Israel in a ten-day period earlier this year during rising tensions between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.
