Guest Chosen to Continue Service on the Committee on Homeland Security

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) announced that he will serve a third term on the House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security (CHS). The committee released the names of the 14 Republican Members led by CHS Chairman Mark Green (TN-07) to write legislation and conduct oversight of certain government agencies involving the national security of the United States of America.

“We are facing significant national security challenges in the United States. A porous southwest border, China’s Tik-Tok surveillance, and a lack of oversight of the Department of Homeland Security were allowed to go unanswered under a Democrat-led House of Representatives and White House,” Congressman Guest said. “That will change under the new Republican majority, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my service on the Homeland Security Committee to create the necessary legislation and oversight to address the issues that have been allowed to gain traction under the Biden Administration.”

“I am thrilled to have Congressman Guest return to the Committee on Homeland Security for the 118th Congress,” said Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green. “He has established a strong legacy as leader on the most pressing issues facing our homeland security from the threat that China poses to pushing back on the Biden administration’s failed border security policies. I am honored to work alongside Congressman Guest and look forward to leveraging his leadership in delivering on our commitment to America.”

During his time on CHS, Congressman Guest introduced legislation critical to addressing the border crisis and its impacts, including the END FENTANYL Act, the Combatting International Drug Trafficking and Human Smuggling Partnership Act of 2022, and the Border Enforcement Security Task Force Act.

Congressman Guest has also proved himself as an effective legislator on national security matters in his tenure on CHS. His bill, the Terrorist and Foreign Fighter and Travel Exercise Act, was signed into law by President Trump in 2019 and promotes the identification and determent of terrorist travel.

In response to his leadership on CHS, then-Ranking Member John Katko appointed Congressman Guest to serve as Vice-Ranking Member of the committee.

Congressman Guest has also been an outspoken Member of the committee — publicly criticizing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s handling of the border crisis and participating in three trips to the southwest border to highlight the need for Congressional action.
