Greek Life Student Leaders Chosen as National Traveling Consultants

Four University of Southern Mississippi Greek Life students were selected recently by their national headquarters to serve as national consultants for the 2016-2017 year. Phoenix Pope of Pi Beta Phi and Sarah Beth Selph of Alpha Delta Pi have been chosen by their respective sororities to serve as traveling consultants for the next school year. Recent alumni Elena Lofton of Delta Gamma and Emily Radcliffe of Phi Mu were selected to serve as second-year consultants for their respective organizations.

Pope was selected alongside 10 other women to serve as a Leadership Development Consultant for Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. During the 2016-2017 calendar year, the LDCs will travel across North America, visiting current chapters, supporting newly established colonies, and completely other duties on behalf of the national headquarters.

Pope is a senior communications studies major with a minor in political science and is set to graduate in May 2016. She joined the Mississippi Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi in September 2012 and has served in various leadership roles, including New Member Coordinator and Vice President of Membership. In addition, Pope served in leadership roles at USM, including Southern Style 2014, Eagle Connection, Eagle Ambassadors, and as the 2015-2016 SGA Election Commissioner.

“Southern Miss Greek Life has truly prepared me for this next step, and I am forever indebted to our community of leaders, scholars, philanthropists, and friends for pushing me to be my best at all times,” said Pope. “I know that as I travel across the nation I will see some incredible universities and meet some wonderful people, but there is no doubt that Southern Miss will always be home to me.”

Sarah Beth Selph was selected alongside 10 other women to serve as a Leadership Consultant for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. During the 2016-2017, the LCs will serve as representatives of the sorority and work with collegiate chapters throughout the academic year in areas such as officer training, recruitment, and leadership.

Selph is a senior Communications Studies major with a minor in Political Science and is set to graduate in May 2016. Selph joined the Eta Zeta chapter in September 2012. In addition, she also served in leadership roles around campus as a member of Southern Style 2015, Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association Cabinet, and Vice President of Communications and Events for Eagle Connection.

“There was immediate tears of joy when I received the call from the Alpha Delta Pi Executive Office,” said Selph. “I was absolutely elated and immediately accepted the offer on the phone without an ounce of hesitation.”

Two fellow members of the Southern Miss Panhellenic community will be traveling across the country for their respective organizations– but for a second time. After serving a full year for their respective headquarters, alumni Elena Lofton and Emily Radcliffe will be traveling across North America once more as second-year consultants.

Emily Radcliffe was selected to serve as a second-year chapter consultant for Phi Mu Fraternity.
