God Provides
I watched the birds and the squirrels outside my window this morning while the cold wind was blowing and snowflakes were whirling. The birds were all over the ground, pecking for food, flying up into the trees and back down to the ground, at a frenetic pace! The trees had several squirrels zipping all over the ground, up the trees and jumping from limb to limb. It seemed that neither the birds nor the squirrels were worried about the weather. They went about the business of living without regard to the possibility of harm from the storms that were coming.
It was a beautiful picture of God’s providence. We all face the Storms of Life and none of them are enjoyable or welcomed, but God’s providence is just as sure and certain as the care He provides for the smallest of His creatures. We can rest assured that we will be provided with our needs when the time comes – Strength for the daily battles with troubles, acceptance when the answer is not what we desire, Peace in the midst of unbearable hurt – God provides for His children! I am reminded of an old song that is still relevant today, “God leads us along”.
“Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright, God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in the darkest of night, God leads His dear children along.
Refrain:
Some through the waters, some through the flood, Some through the fire, but all through the blood; Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song, In the night season, and all the day long.”
Lyrics from “God Leads Us Along”, George A. Young, 1903, Public Domain.
