God deserves a cheerful giver.

The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” The early Christian church leaders knew it to be very important that all members contribute as much as possible to help provide for the various needs among the membership. No one was to give more than he felt within his means to give. The widows and the orphans and the truly poor were to be cared for, of course. The reward for the giver would come in knowing that God would be well-pleased, and blessings would flow as a result of the munificence of the giver. Let it be said of us that we give freely from what God has so freely bestowed upon us. And let me leave you with the line from the old song “Six Feet of Earth”: “A cup of cold water in charity given is remembered with joy in the sky.” Amen!
