National Work Zone Awareness Week will be observed April 26-30 with this year’s theme of “Drive Safe. Work Safe. Save Lives.” Join the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) to help raise awareness about work zone safety and “Go Orange” on Wednesday, April 28.
Each morning, MDOT maintenance and construction crews leave the safety of their homes to report to work to ensure Mississippi’s transportation network is safe for motorists. However, this can be dangerous work in an unpredictable environment.
Go Orange Day is Wednesday, April 28. Please join us as we wear orange to show our support for the men and women who work tirelessly to keep Mississippi’s roads safe. Take a photo of yourself wearing orange to show your commitment to work zone safety. We would appreciate if you tag @MississippiDOT and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #NWZAW #Orange4Safety or #GoOrange4Safety.
The traveling public plays a major role in protecting our roadside workers. Unfortunately, there have already been several work zone related traffic accidents this year, including three workers being injured in the last few weeks. Please remind the traveling public to slow down, put the phone away, pay attention to advanced warning signs and be alert for roadside crews throughout Mississippi.
Thank you for your support of our workers.
