Gibson added to Co-Lin football staff
WESSON – Head coach Glenn Davis announces the hiring of Rod Gibson as running backs coach for the Copiah-Lincoln Wolfpack football team. Gibson will additionally serve as the strength and conditioning coach for Co-Lin.
Gibson comes to Wesson after serving the last 12 years as a member of the staff at Mississippi Delta Community College. While at Delta, Gibson worked under head coaches Jay Miller, Todd Lott, and Jeff Tatum. A native of Greenwood, Gibson was an All-State running back for Greenwood High as a senior. Himself a MDCC alumnus, Gibson was an All-State running back during his playing career in Moorhead (1996-1997). Gibson continued his career at Mississippi State (1998-1999), where his position coach was Glenn Davis. Gibson is best remembered by Mississippi State fans for his 1-yard touchdown run with 1:39 remaining in the game that gave the Bulldogs a 17-16 victory over LSU on Oct. 23, 1999. That ’99 team rose as high as No. 8 in the nation and finished 10-2 after defeating Clemson in the Peach Bowl.
Gibson earned a B.S. in Educational Psychology and his M.Ed. in Sports Administration from Mississippi State. He was also named Southeastern Conference Academics Honor Roll. Gibson initially worked two years as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State before being hired at Delta. Gibson is the father of two children, Roderika and Jarvarrius.
Gibson replaces longtime Co-Lin running backs coach Bill Hemingway. Hemingway is now in charge of the linebackers after former Wolfpack linebackers coach Brett Shufelt left to take a position at Jackson Prep.
