They’re coming from across the Southeast and as far away as California July 26-27. During their stay, incoming freshmen will meet professors, spend the night in residence halls, make new friends and have fun.
There will be students lined up for photos with MC sports personality Tom A. Hawk in the A.E. Wood Coliseum. They can sample free popcorn and enjoy sweet tea from McAlisters. Newcomers also get the chance to discover scores of student organizations on the Clinton campus.
President Blake Thompson will address members of the Class of 2022 and their parents at a Thursday evening dinner in Anderson Hall. It begins at 6 p.m. Freshmen from Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee are also coming for the two-day orientation.
New MC Choctaws will also register for classes. They soon return for the Christian university’s Move-In Day as they get settled in campus residence halls August 18. It will be followed by a slew of events at Choctaw Fanfare. Activities include a Choctaws football scrimmage at Robinson-Hale Stadium followed by fireworks that Saturday evening.
Parents won’t be left out at this summer’s final MC freshmen orientation. They are scheduled for sessions dealing with financial aid, scholarships, and student groups – from social tribes & clubs to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. There’s time set for prayers and praise in Provine Chapel Thursday night. Parents are invited to separate breakfasts Friday morning with university athletic staff and college pastors at Anderson Hall.
Jonathan Ambrose, assistant vice president for student affairs, admissions staffers and a team of campus leaders will again toss out the Blue & Gold welcome mat to the visitors.
Mississippi College begins its 193rd academic year with a Fall Convocation on August 17 for faculty and staff. The event features remarks from President Thompson followed by a luncheon.
Welcome Week 2018 at the 5,200-student university begins August 18. Highlights include Back to the Bricks activities August 20 where students meet dozens of area merchants in downtown Clinton. It runs from 5-7 p.m. that Monday.
