JACKSON – As a part of National Consumer Protection Week, Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office will be hosting free community shred days at three statewide locations.
“We live in a time where identity theft is on the rise. One in four Americans will experience identity theft in their lifetimes, and these shred days are a good way to guard against it,” said General Fitch. “During National Consumer Protection Week, I want to help show the great citizens of our state how they can better protect themselves from scams and fraud.”
The dates and locations of the shred days are listed below, and all three will be from 8 AM to 12 PM, or until the truck fills, whichever comes first.
February 29: D’Iberville
Walmart Supercenter
3615 Sangani Blvd.
March 6: Jackson
Home Depot
6325 1-55 North
March 13: Starkville
Lowe’s
882 Hwy 12 West
National Consumer Protection Week officially begins Sunday, March 1, and runs through March 7. During the awareness week, the General’s office will also be posting facts and protection tips on social media. Some of the messages she will highlight include:
-What red flags to look for to help identify a scam
-Tips to secure your identity
-Before you sign, go online
To see the General’s daily messaging for National Consumer Protection Week on social media, you can click the links to her Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages, which are shared below.
