Fourteen graduate Co-Lin’s inaugural class of electrical lineman program
WESSON – Fourteen students recently completed Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s first ever Electrical Lineman School. The 16-week training program is offered by the college’s Workforce Education Division. Program Instructor Tony Martin, a retired Lineman from Magnolia Electric Power, served as both a mentor and a coach to help push students to be their best.
“Sixteen weeks ago, these men didn’t even know one another and now they stand here as good friends,” said Martin. “They have truly learned to be their brothers’ keepers.”

At a showcase and certificate presentation for family and friends, graduates showed off only a fraction of the skills they’d learned including attaching lines, climbing poles, and conducting a mock rescue. Workforce Director Stephenie Sullivan remarked on the graduating class.
“These are not the same 14 young men that showed up on the first day of class,” said Sullivan. “They’ve grown, been challenged, and matured in ways that we can’t explain. We are so proud of each graduate.”
The Electrical Lineman Program is a non-credit workforce training program that, when completed, provides graduates with nine credentials: National Electric Codes, National Safety Electric Codes, Multi-Meter, OSHA-10, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, 40-hours climbing, Pole-Top Rescue, and CDL- Class A- License.
Graduates included Brett Abernathy of Lincoln County, Darius Brown of Simpson County, Garrison Coffey of Lincoln County, Peyton Fowler of Franklin County, Lawson Graves of Lamar County, Tanner Gunther of Lincoln County, Payton Harris of Rankin County, Hooks Harvey of Simpson County, Ty Laird of Lincoln County, Thomas Larkin of Franklin County, Lane Lowe of Lawrence County, Justin May of Franklin County, FDaran Chance Thompson of Walthall County, and Weston Young of Lincoln County.
