Mississippi College landed four student-athletes on the 2016 Gulf South Conference FireSeeds All-Academic Teams for the fall sports season, it was announced on Thursday (Jan. 19).

Senior Graham Bobo (Men’s Soccer), junior Kaleb Coleman (Football) and sophomores Lawrence Guyot (Football) and Lauren Smith (Women’s Soccer) were all selected to the teams after a joint vote by the GSC Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Facutly Athletic Representatives (FARs).

Nominees must have an overall grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities.

SIDs and FARs are now allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.

Bobo (Clinton, Miss.) helped lead the men’s soccer program to the 2016 GSC regular season championship, earning the right to host the postseason tournament in Clinton. The former Clinton HS standout was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and earned a spot on the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Team. Bobo was a unanimous selection and has recorded a 4.00 GPA in Biology Medical Sciences and will be attending medical school following graduation.

Coleman (Robertsdale, Ala.) returned to the MC football team in 2016 after missing the previous season with an injury and recorded 34 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery. The former Robertsdale HS standout had a season-high six tackles against West Alabama and had a season-high 2.0 TFL and a sack against Point. Coleman has posted a 3.92 GPA in Kinesiology (Pre-Physical Therapy).

Guyot (Bartlett, Tenn.) moved into the starting lineup for the final six games of the 2016 season as the left tackle for the Choctaws. The former Bolton HS standout graded out as MC’s top offensive lineman this year, nearing 90% positive impact in the plays he participated in. Guyot has posted a 3.88 GPA in Kinesiology (Sports Management).

Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) started all 20 matches for the Lady Choctaws, helping lead the team to the championship match of the GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. The former Hewitt-Trussville HS standout led the team with eight goals scored, including a season-high two against Delta State and Valdosta State. The CoSIDA Academic All-District selection has posted a 3.86 GPA in Biology Medical Sciences.
