JACKSON, Miss. – Today State Auditor Shad White announced that LaCosta Lee, a former contracted probation officer for Court Programs, Inc. (CPI), has pleaded guilty to six counts of embezzlement.

Lee received court-ordered fines and fees from those on probation and then proceeded to pocket the money for her own personal use.

“Our dedicated team at the State Auditor’s office continues to work closely with prosecutors to get record results,” said State Auditor Shad White. “That’s how we’ve recovered more money in the last six years than any other six-year period in the history of the Auditor’s office.”

Lee was prosecuted in the 12th District Circuit Court. Lee was sentenced to 20 years, 17 suspended, 3 to serve, 5 years post release supervision, and has been ordered to pay $4,313.75 in restitution, $3,000 in fines, and $400 to the victims’ compensation fund.

Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.
