My son, Breck, sent me this picture of his youngest daughter, Haleigh. When I saw the picture, the beauty of the picture almost took my breath away….not just the beauty of Haleigh herself…but of the freedom expressed…the colors exposed…the love of life. I felt this picture was a wonderful picture to represent the beauty of freedom given to each of us by the sacrifices made in the past and present.
I love Memorial Day. I love seeing the pictures shared on FB of the men and women who served in the Armed Forces. I think of my daddy, and the fellow Navy buddy who gave his life so my daddy could live. My daddy served on a mine sweeper during World War 2 (Navy). He was in charge of the ship. A fire broke out. One of his friends pushed a burning pole out of the way sacrificing his life for daddy’s. I think of Davis Martin who died in the Vietnam War. Davis grew up in Magee…brother to Buck and Billy Martin. Dead at such a young age…so we could have freedom.
Thank you to the men and women who give their lives everyday so we as Americans can be free.
