While preparing for Tuesday night live FB on the election, I did a little research to learn more about what type of money is flowing through these campaigns. To someone like me, the dollars are huge. I can’t imagine what national campaigns cost!

According to OpenSecrets.org, candidates for the third district collected and spent the following as of 05/16/18

Whit Hughes (R) $430,577 $363,167 $67,410 05/16/2018
Michael Patrick Guest (R) $395,907 $335,248 $60,659 05/16/2018
Perry Parker (R) $390,412 $142,996 $247,416 05/16/2018
Morgan Dunn (R) $117,840 $69,782 $48,058 05/16/2018
Sally Doty (R) $109,911 $65,429 $44,482 05/16/2018
Kevin Aycox (D) $1,530 $2,351 $31 05/16/2018

In the District 3 congressional race, Whit Hughes led the pack in fundraising.
Perry Parker led in money in April with the help of a $240,000loan from himself to the campaign. Parker is now in 3rd place in fundraising.

All of this information is public record. I’m not telling anything you cannot find out for yourself.
Running for office isn’t cheap…not financially or physically. These guys and girls have beat the pavement for months now…coming down to a June 26th run-off. Low voter turn out was expected but make me sad! Ya’ll, you need to vote! In Simpson County 2,564 people voted. This number represents 14.61% of the registers voters.

The election for House of Representatives District 77 is July 10th. More on District 77 later!
