MENDENHALL, Miss. – Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Co-Lin) Workforce students recently completed the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Program held at the Simpson County Center in Mendenhall. Course instruction lasted eight weeks and included a combination of 84 hours of theory and 16 hours of on-site clinical practice at a local facility. Once the course is completed the state board students will take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam for certification and placement on the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry.

“We’d like to extend a special thank you to Bedford Care Center in Mendenhall who hosted the clinical practice portion of this training. They filled a critical role in preparing these students for their certification and ultimately the workforce,” said Co-Lin Workforce Program Coordinator Robin Mitchell, RN, BSN.

The CNA program prepares the individual to assist in providing care to patients at hospitals, long-term care facilities, physicians’ offices, home health and at home.  Lessons include but are not limited to resident’s rights, preventing and controlling infection, weighing and measuring, vital signs, safety and emergency procedures, nutrition, and managing patient information.

“We are proud of these students and all those who prepare for careers through our Workforce Education courses. While these training sessions are not eligible for college credit, they quickly prepare individuals with new skills for new or improved jobs for a very reasonable tuition. These opportunities are critical to regional employment growth,” added Dr. Dewayne Middleton, Co-Lin Executive Vice President.

Those interested in future training opportunities at Copiah-Lincoln Community College are encouraged to visit www.colin.edu/workforce the workforce education website for information and upcoming class schedules.

Area students completing a total of 100 hours of skill training for a health career as a CAN are Lachyna Holloway, Chrisanna Berry, Amber Cole, Quashonda Grant, Marcedees Walker, Madison Grantham, Jayla Newsome, all of Magee; Michelle Tyrone, Tiffany Rushing, and Sharon Walker, all of Mendenhall; Keaundria Barnes, Anesheirra Hubbard, and Khaliah Price all of Mt. Olive; Regina Bridges and Brooklyn Moore both of Pinola; Elexis Barnes and Katie Page, both of Taylorsville; Ashley Edwards of D’Lo; Senikka Weathersby of Prentiss; and Adrianne Young of Bassfield.
