Monday night, December 3, 2018, Investigator Matt Gipson of the Magee Police Department appeared on the TalkShow. Matt was discussing staying safe during Christmas.

One of the things Zach, Matt and I discussed was counterfeit money. I knew earlier Monday counterfeit bills had been passed in Magee.

The example Matt had to show us was a “fake” $100 bill. Not all counterfeit bills are $100 bills. He has seen every bill counterfeit.

What shocked me about this bill was what was written at the top:
Motion Picture Purposes! Now, you may think I would know that was not real. But, I was surprised when I just glanced at the bill how real it looked (from a distance.). I worked at the Post Office for twenty years and dealt with counterfeit frequently. As soon as I touched the bill, I knew something wasn’t right. But, if the bill is mixed in with several other $100 bills, one might not spot it quite as fast.

Matt let me take pictures of both sides of the bill. What I found interesting when trying to download and size the fake bill pictures, Adobe photo shop would not open the front side of the bill for me to size and share! Actually, the front side looks very real!

In saying all of this, I want to remind everyone to be careful during the holidays for theft, leaving packages and purses visible, packages at your door. Just this week I saw where a friend in Mendenhall had her wallet stollen off the front seat of her car in front of her business! The bad guys are “out there” be aware!

Thanks to Matt Gipson for a very informative talk about safety.

I hope everyone has a safe and merry Christmas!
