Elijah Joel Mason was born August 27th, 1936 in Altavista, Virginia. During his younger years, Mr. Mason spent his time going to school and helping his mother and father work in the tobacco fields of Virginia. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and developed a fascination for learning how things work, thus sparking his interest in the Engineering field. Most notably, Mr. Mason had a passion for the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading and studying the Bible.

After graduating high school, Mr. Mason enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 at the age of 18. While serving in the military, he spent 8 years working on various projects aboard the USS New Jersey BB-62. During his time in the Navy, he traveled the globe and served time in Japan, England, Okinawa, China, Turkey, Africa, Philippines, Italy, Greece, Norway, Korea, Bermuda and Sicily. After 8 years of dedicated military service, he decided to work as a Metallurgist at Lilly Tulip’s in Patterson, New Jersey.
Years later in 1964, Mr. Mason began working for Universal Manufacturing (later known as Magnatek), where he ran furnace operations in the Annealing Department. While fixing televisions (a trade he learned fueled by his aforementioned fascination of how things work), Mr. Mason met Gabriele Cindy Mason. The two were wed in holy matrimony on July 30th 1966 in Patterson, New Jersey and shared 54 years of marriage. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Mason decided to relocate with Magnatek, moving from New Jersey to Magee, Mississippi on August 1st 1966. He remained with the company until its relocation to Mexico and later joined Howard Industries until his retirement. During his tenure at Magnatek, Mr. Mason not only attained a Master’s degree in Engineering but also furthered his love for the Lord by attending Seminary. Mr. Mason spent 18 years of service as a Methodist Minister, preaching the Gospel at Double Church, Cedar Grover United Methodist Church, Trinity and Puckett United Methodist Church. After relocating to Brandon, MS he and Cindy became members of Crossgates United Methodist Church, where he continued serving the Lord by teaching Sunday School. Mr. Mason retired from Ministry due to declining health.

Mr. Mason not only had a keen interest for computers and telescopes, but also a true passion and interest in all those around him. His entire life was exemplified by love. He participated in the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason in addition to The Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as a Worthy Patron form 1974-1978. It is suffice to say, Mr. Mason was a kind, gentle and loving man rooted with a strong work ethic. He had a burning passion for the Lord and loved his family with all of his heart. One of Mr. Mason’s favorite scriptures was a passage from the Book of John — “Jesus wept” (John 11:35 KJV).

He was preceded in death by parents, Fletcher and Beulah Mason; two brothers; two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Gabriele Cindy Mason; son, Michael Joel Mason; daughters, Melissa Rees (John), Patricia Wolcott; grandchildren, Monica Pierce (Ben), Nicole Hunt (Daniel), Rebecca Jordan, Brittany Mason, Cody Cole, Summer Mason, Gracie Mason; great-grandchildren, Kamden Hunt, Kyleigh Hunt, and Jameson Richardson; sister, Mandy Patterson (Jim).

Pallbearers will be Michael Mason, Michael Jordan, Cody Cole, Ron Ogan, Mark Taylor, and Ben Pierce. Honorary Pallbearer will be Johnny Rees.
