During the regular scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors Monday, April 16, 2018, upcoming dates and positions were approved.
Governor Bryant has set a special election to fill the vacancy for the seat formerly held by Andy Gipson for the House District 77 for July 10, 2018 with a runoff if needed on July 31, 2018. The qualifying date is May 21, 2018.
A notice of resignation of James Price Wallace as Simpson County Election Commissioner District 3 was accepted due to Wallace running for District House 77 position.
An approval for the deceleration of vacancy on the Simpson County Election Commission for District 3 was announced. Notification was given to the Secretary of State regarding the vacancy and need for a special election at the November 2018 special election.
The Board considered appointing Allen Floyd as Election Commissioner to replace Price Wallace until the next special election due to no others showing interest in the position. Mr. Allen serves as Chair for the Republican Executive Committee. Mr. Allen does not want to resign from the position he currently holds. The board approved to appoint Mr. Floyd upon further investigation with the state office to determined if there would be no conflict of interest with Mr. Floyd serving in both positions.
The board approved the emergency bid of Burroughs for the the garbage truck chassis as the lowest and best bid of $100,525.00 plus $2,590.00 for the five-year extended warranty and 90-day delivery. The board approved Trustmark National Bank low interest rate bid of 3.08% for 48 months for the Truck Chassis for new garbage truck due to necessity and lack of time to go through the regular bid process.
Representative Hank Zuber met before the board regarding the Opioid Legislation. Mr. Zuber wanted the board to sign with him to represent the county in the Opioid lawsuit. Mr. Zuber advised the board he would only charge the board 25% commissions. The board took the information under advisement to discuss and research further the county’s intentions.
Cindy Stanley with the Public Service Commissioners office met before the board to introduce herself and answer any questions the board might have regarding utility sectors.
With no further business, the meeting was recessed until the next special meeting, Thursday, April 19, 2018.
