Since 2009, the Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) at The University of Southern Mississippi has hosted a free conference for educators on teaching and learning called Educators Connect.

This year’s theme, Student Success Through Active Teaching and Learning, reflects a focus on both traditional and innovative methods that have shown potential to improve student learning outcomes. Session topics will include themes related to active and engaged learning, high-impact educational practices, and other promising strategies

This full-day conference boasts registration of nearly 200 educators from eight states, more than 15 four-year institutions, community colleges, and high schools.

“We are excited to once again host an event that brings new and fresh opportunities to the classroom. This conference continues to offer faculty motivation as well as practical solutions for improving student success in higher education,” said Sheri Lyons, LEC director.

The free conference is aimed at university educators seeking to improve teaching and learning and features resources to connect faculty to effective teaching and learning approaches by allowing faculty members to experience, communicate and collaborate with colleagues. Break-out sessions will include strategies such as active learning, engaging students in online courses, building strong learning communities, and other instructional models.

“We take pride in offering this conference at no cost to participants thanks to the generosity of our industry partners who serve as sponsors,” said Bonnie Cooper, LEC assistant director for academic services.

The conference will include breakfast and lunch. Those wishing to participate may register and learn more at https://lec.usm.edu/major-events/edconn2016/
