Early teachings in the home are deigned to help guide children.

The Scriptural passage is found in Proverbs 20:22: “My son, keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; who you awake, they will speak to you.” King Solomon, as ruler and judge of his people, often shared pearls of wisdom with parents and their children. Proper protocol and respect within families were essential. The parents, as head of the household, were charged with providing the children with the necessary tools needed as they grew and assumed their roles in society. Those early teachings within the home were designed to help guide children throughout life. If we were fortunate to have had parents who trusted the Holy Spirit for guidance, we know how vital that knowledge and their example have been to our lives. My parents were steeped in God’s Word and led and taught us by example. “Jesus Saves” was not just a plaque with those words inscribed, hanging on a living room wall or the title of an old song in the hymn book. It was a statement of fact, and I listened, and I learned and absorbed. “We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves; Jesus saves.” Jesus saves, indeed! Amen!
