Eagle Maker Hub Represents USM’s First Publicly Available Makerspace

Digital fabrication tools have become increasingly available to the average consumer interested in designing prototypes for medical, education, engineering, and more.
Dr. Anna Wan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at The University of Southern Mississippi, has created Southern Miss’s first publicly available makerspace — Eagle Maker Hub.
Eagle Maker Hub’s mission is to provide accessibility to digital fabrication, rapid prototyping, and coding. A Makerspace brings together people who want to learn, people with the knowledge, and the technology to be able to create things. Eagle Maker Hub is not limited to the Southern Miss community but also to the people in the surrounding areas.
“Everyone is a maker and everyone can make things. People that don’t consider themselves makers have locked potential to make things, and digital fabrication can unlock that potential. We are in the era of making anything you want,” said Wan.
Starting in August, Eagle Maker Hub will have open lab every Wednesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. open to on-campus and off-campus community. For every open lab, Dr. Wan will have a different technology focus for people to experience.
“We make things as kids, such as sand castles, and digital fabrication is a way to make things in a more precise manner,” said Wan.
For more information about scheduling, booking field trips, or general knowledge contact Anna Wan at anna.wan@usm.edu.
