Officers Matt Sullivan and Will Douglas spoke with Sha Badgett who stated that Robert Newsome was driving behind him and shot several times striking his vehicle (2007 Chevrolet Impala) twice while directly in front of Eastside Apartments while children were present.

Joey Womack along with several members of the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office traveled to 178 A Coats Road, Mt. Olive. Lt. Womack towed a 2005 Buick LeSabre that was driven by Newsome to the Magee Police Department. Newsome finally appeared and was placed under arrest for drive by shooting (2 counts).

Robert Newsome appeared before Magee Municipal Court Judge Eugene Knight where his bond was set at $50,000 for each charge. This case file will be presented to the next grand jury in the Spring of 2016.

Chief Randy Crawford stated that he was very grateful that no innocent bystander was hurt or killed and was extremely proud of the quick response of the officers in order to apprehend the subject in a matter of minutes. Chief Randy Crawford also thanked the concerned citizens and witnesses that enabled the Magee Police Department to expedite the arrest.
