Being a former band member, I love to see bands in full uniform. I know the custom that has been adopted by the majority of schools over the years is to wear an alternate dress attire of t-shirts, jeans or shorts the first few games. The selection of this attire is due to hot weather. The bands are cute and cooler with their matching t-shirts. But, Mendenhall band is an exception to the rule. Mr. Hudson, Band Director for Mendenhall, requires his kids to wear full uniform when they attend games. A lot of expense goes into the purchasing of these uniforms and only to wear them a few games is just sad. Back in the day, bands were required to be in full uniform the first game and most uniforms were made of wool! As a former Lions Band member, we had to wear these hot uniforms in the middle of summer during national competition and survived just fine. This is just an opinion from my perspective. I am not criticizing any band that does not dress in full uniform every game. I totally understand the reasoning behind it, just praise to the one that does.
