Governor Tate Reeves post from Facebook (7/15/2020)

Today, we had an excellent meeting with Dr. Deborah Birx—as well as several community leaders. She’s been visiting several states across the region, as we deal with increased COVID-19 cases and hospital system strain.

She’s been a tremendous partner throughout this fight, but it was especially great to have her on the ground here. She offered some excellent insight, and reiterated that she and the Trump administration are available to help in any way that we need.

She also complemented Mississippi’s innovative approach to this mission. We’re not just chasing what the national headlines say is the latest silver bullet. We’re leading, and they’ve noticed that. They appreciate it, and support it.

I don’t want anyone to mistake the confidence that I have in the team working on this with the notion that this is solved: we have serious challenges. But they can be addressed. We can come through.

She reiterated the Trump Administration’s firm conclusion that masks work, and can help prevent further widespread economic shutdowns. That pain in the community is not sustainable, and contributes to people giving up on the mission.
