Dr. David Ward musician for First United Methodist Church of Magee, visited me at MageeNews.com last week. Patrice and I were very fortunate to meet David, thanks to Magee Middle School Principal Terrell Luckey.

I knew upon meeting David I was in the presence of a true musician! David’s credentials are impeccable! I have listened to David’s performances on You-tube. He touches the soul.

I enjoyed my interview with David. I hope you will, too!!! David is available for private piano lessons Beginner to Advanced. Contact David @ 601-818-8123 or @ the First United Methodist Church of Magee (601-849-2459)

From his earliest years, pianist David Ward has satisfied the need of enriching people’s lives through music, thus fulfilling a basic human necessity. This metaphysical urge started at a very early age when he would listen to his mother give piano lessons and afterwards crawl to the piano and perform what he just heard, never having any piano lessons. Soon after, he found himself playing professionally for musicals, shows, orchestras, and operas. During this early stage of personal growth, David entered piano competitions and won a Steinway grand piano as a youth. In his early teens, David’s formal training then started with Adele Marcus at the Juilliard School. This developmental period led to offers of full-paid scholarship to many conservatories and universities, culminating with acceptance for study at the Manhattan School of Music and the Music Academy of the West with Gary Graffman, one of only two main students of Vladimir Horowitz. Gary Graffman also taught fellow pianists Lang Lang and Yuja Wang. David completed his NYC musical studies at the Juilliard School with Sasha Gorodnitzki, Oxana Yablonskaya, and Jerome Lowenthal. Additionally, Dr. David Ward received further important training in piano technique, mechanics, and pedagogy with Jeaneane Dowis, technique specialist for Rosina Lhevinne at the Juilliard School and Aspen Music Festival.

Accepted for registration as Artist-in-Residence for the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, Dr. David Ward has given master classes in addition to all levels of piano teaching. As a Steinway Artist, David expresses himself musically through the creative spirit of timeless composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, and Prokofiev, as well as sacred music. David Ward has appeared on television, National Public Radio, and in concert, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. David’s distinctive musicality and technical prowess are described in these words from the Florida Daytona Beach News Journal, “David is a world-class pianist…whose natural rapport with the keyboard assures a permanent place for his musical star in the firmament with such luminaries as Horowitz, Rubinstein, Rachmaninoff, and Schnabel.” David Ward’s unique artistry and heartfelt love for his music is evidenced by audiences who have described his performances as “anointed,” “noble,” “electrifying,” and “unique.”

“A distinction which completely sets the Steinway piano apart from all others is that one can play softly on it, yet still produce its supremely glorious, warm, rich tones.”

Dr. David M. Ward

It has been said by some that Dr. David M. Ward’s playing is like that of the ‘golden age’ of the piano. That his performances can “make your ears wiggle.” And that to get a true fix on his performance style, one must think of Horowitz, Rubinstein, Paderewski, and Rachmaninoff.

Born in Central Florida, David M. Ward began playing the piano at age three. David was playing at a professional level by age eight, and won a Steinway Grand Piano in competition at age twelve. He studied on full scholarships in New York City at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music, as well as in California at the Music Academy of the West. His main teacher was Gary Graffman, who was one of only 2 main students of Vladimir Horowitz.

David completed his music academic studies at The University of Southern Mississippi to earn his doctorate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. As a concert pianist, teacher, and coach, he has given Master Classes in addition to all levels of piano instruction. Steinway Artist Dr. David M. Ward has appeared on television, radio, and in concert, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. He has been accepted for registration as Artist-in-Residency by the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs, and was featured on National Public Radio.

Dr. David M. Ward has been a Steinway Artist since 1996.
