Many people in Magee and the surrounding area have experienced Christmas OUTSIDE the home of Kim and Lee Maddox through the years, enjoying the acres of Christmas lights the family displays each year. This year, Kim invited MageeNews.com to take our readers on a tour INSIDE their home as well.

Kim, who is a nursing instructor and the owner of Maddox Designs, LLC, creates stunning Christmas decorations that feature unique ribbons and accessories. She shares her love of decorating with others as she helps them deck the halls of their own homes each year.

This year, however, Maddox is taking her talent and love of Christmas a little farther afield. She is one of only around 300 applicants chosen to help decorate the White House for the holidays. Yes, that White House. Thousands of people applied to serve as volunteer decorators this year, and Maddox is thrilled to have been chosen. She plans to spend some time visiting Washington, DC, having a little fun before the work begins.

When decorating her own home, Maddox finds inspiration in the interests of her family. One tree focuses on family memories and heirloom ornaments. Another is filled with all things fancy and “girly,” and Kim calls it her tree. One of the most unique trees in the home is found in the bedroom of Emelia, the Maddox’s young daughter, who asked Kim to create a Paris-themed tree this year.

Curated items and a lot of ribbon add festive touches throughout the home, and Kim assures people they, too, can create custom Christmas decorations for their homes. It’s all about the ribbon, according to Kim, who recommends ribbon with heavy wire and suggests sourcing such ribbon from Amazon or Etsy.

In the midst of all her decorating, Maddox also makes time for baking and is known for her French macarons. Check out her facebook page, which is filled with the holiday flavors she will feature this year. You can also follow Kim on TikTok and Instagram to see all her latest designs and, hopefully, follow her on her upcoming adventure.
