Donald Ray Barr, 81, formerly of Magee, MS, passed away on October 27, 2025, following a courageous 12-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Martinville, Mississippi, on August 17, 1944, to Ulma and Guy Barr, Sr., Don grew up in Magee and graduated from Magee High School, Copiah Lincoln Community College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Don spent many years as a business owner and salesman, earning the respect and affection of his community through his integrity, hard work, and generous spirit.
After moving to Brandon, MS, in 2009, Don embraced retirement with joy and purpose. He volunteered faithfully in the food pantry ministry at Crossgates Church and could often be found in the kitchen cooking dinner for his beloved wife, Vickie. Serving others brought him happiness, and his infectious smile and quick wit brightened the lives of everyone he met. Don loved the local church and was a passionate encourager of those in ministry, always eager to lend a helping hand or a word of support.
A lover of being out and about, Don enjoyed playing golf, gathering with friends and family, and sharing his gift for hospitality—especially through his cooking. He was a loyal friend and a true example of kindness and generosity.
In 2019, Don and Vickie made their home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where they became active members of Church of the Highlands. Together, they served on the greeter team, participated in small groups, and joyfully joined in Saturday Serve events, delivering meals and encouragement across the community.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Vickie Neely Barr; his children, Brad Barr (Christy), Missie Armstrong (Chris), Jeff Barr (Trish), and Bethany Phillips (Andy); his 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his legacy of laughter, service, and faith will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at FBC Magee Family Life Center at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
