Donald “Don” Love O’Cain, Magee, MS

Donald “Don” Love O’Cain, 79, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020, in Magee. He was born August 6, 1941, in Canton, Mississippi to Claude and Mary O’Cain. He was a member and Deacon of Sharon Presbyterian Church.

Donald was a Master Mason, with the Magee Lodge. He graduated from Canton High School and then attended Holmes Community College, before joining the Canton Fire/Police Department. He graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, and the LSU Law Enforcement Institute, 36th Session. He served with the Mississippi National Guard, 172nd Military Airlift Group where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Donald joined the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 1966. His service began as a State Trooper stationed in Simpson County, Highway Patrol Investigator, Director of Internal Affairs, and Assistant Chief of Patrol. He retired from the Uniformed Division of the Highway Patrol in 1988. He then served as the State Auditor’s Director of Investigative Audit, Governor Kirk Fordice’s Executive Director of Public Safety Planning, and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Investigator. Donald’s last Law Enforcement position was held as Sheriff of Simpson County from 2016 through 2020.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Clyde Stringer; mother-in-law, Annie Lois Stringer; brothers-in-law, Paul Rushing and Wayne Burkes; sister-in-law, Jerry Stringer; and great-niece, Abbie O’Cain.

Donald is survived by his wife, Lynda Stringer O’Cain; one daughter, Rene Craft (Thad); two sisters, Ann Rushing Burkes, and Carole Armstrong (Mike); one brother, Mike O’Cain (Jenny); three grandchildren, Montana Love Grubbs (Wesley), Macie Craft, and Brittany Kemp (Jason); three great-grandchildren, Winter, Belle, and Hunter Kemp; brother- in- law, Nathan Stringer, and numerous nieces, nephews and a community of friends and associates and community of Simpson County, and all over the state of Mississippi.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, with a graveside service following at the  Forest Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Carthage, MS interment will follow.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home.
