On Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at approximately 7:30 PM, officers from the Magee Police Department entered a residence located at 601 1st Street SE in response to a welfare check requested by friends and family of the residents.
Before entering the residence, an officer was able to look through a window and observed a male lying on the floor in the living room of the residence. Once officers entered the residence, AMR was called for the male who was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Upon a further check of the residence, a female was found deceased in one of the bedrooms of the residence.
Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor was called to the scene. AMR transported the male, Robert McBroom, to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment. McBroom is currently in ICU at Forrest General Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
No further details are being released at this point.
