Mississippi College Athletic Director Mike Jones, along with head coach John McMath, have announced the promotion of Ethan Doan from graduate assistant to associate head coach of the MC golf team.

“I’m extremely honored to accept this job here at Mississippi College,” Doan said. I would like to thank Coach Jones and Coach McMath for giving me this opportunity to lead the men’s golf next season. Coming off of a good season this past year, I look to keep the momentum going and have another successful season.”

Serving as the graduate assistant during the 2016-17 season, the golf team saw one of their best seasons in program history. The Choctaws won a single-season record two tournaments and recorded a team round average of 302.04 per 18 holes, a mark that ranks lowest in program history.  The Choctaws also set program single-season record for par four scoring (4.30), par five scoring (5.08), and number of birdies (300). The Choctaws put together their seven lowest 18-hole scores, four of their five best 36-hole totals, as well as three of their four lowest 54-hole totals in school history under Doan’s tutelage during the 2016-17 season.

“Ethan was a great ambassador for our golf program as a student-athlete and has continued that outstanding work as an assistant coach,” Jones said. “We are excited to see him continue to grow as a leader in our program as the associate head coach.”

The Choctaws saw vast improvement in the 2017 GSC Championship, shaving 63 shots off of their 2016 total with a fourth-place finish at 899 (+36). In a field full of nationally-ranked golfers, MC was able to place four of their own in the top 20 among individuals, and all five golfers in the top 28.

“Ethan was a solid player for the program for four years, and has been a valuable graduate assistant,” McMath said. He has demonstrated his ability to recruit and connect with student athletes to improve their golf game. I look forward to continue working with him.”

Prior to serving as the graduate assistant, Doan lettered for four seasons on the MC golf team from 2011-2014, where he ranks third all-time with 69 career rounds played.
