Anytime I receive something “official” looking for MageeNews.com or Local News Online, I get a knot in the pit of my stomach. Sure, I pay all my taxes and all those insurance fees but I always fear the unknown.
Monday, I finally opened two “government looking” envelopes. The form was requesting information about the company and a fee of $75. Mercy, here we go…I am not a forms person so I called Patrice to come assist in the completion of the forms.
As we studied the forms, we both felt something just wasn’t right. I decided to check the Secretary of State’s website…and look what I found! A SCAM!!!
Yes, a scam! Filing the LLC annual report is FREE!
Here’s your warning for the new year! If you have an LLC, don’t fall for the SCAM from C.P.F.S. The company is located in Jackson, MS at 1220 E. Northside Drive Set 170 #299. What the company is doing is offering to file your claim (which is free) for a fee of $75.00. Some may say this is not a “complete” scam…but not me…C.P.F.S. was trying to scam me! Don’t let them scam you!

Secretary of State Cautions Businesses of Annual Report Filing Mailers
The Secretary of State’s Office is cautioning businesses about letters from an entity offering to prepare annual reports for a $75.00 fee.
The letters, sent by an entity called C.P.F.S., appear to have targeted Mississippi LLCs. The letter may appear to be official government correspondence, but the fine print makes it clear that it is not. This correspondence is not authorized by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office.
As a reminder, for domestic LLC owners, the annual report filing is FREE and our Business Services Division is here to help customers with this free filing. Annual reports are due by April 15th of each year and the Secretary of State’s Office sends numerous emails and letter correspondences to remind our Mississippi LLCs of their filing deadlines and responsibilities.
