STATE FAIRGROUNDS, Miss. – The 61st Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo will return to Jackson in the new year with an all-American emphasis in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson invites the public to attend the multiple livestock and equine shows scheduled to take place ahead of the Dixie National Rodeo, starting with the Southern Cutting Horse Futurity on Friday, January 2, 2026.
“Join us for the America250 Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo, which will kick off with the Southern Cutting Horse Futurity,” said Commissioner Gipson. “This equine show began in 1982 and is a proud tradition at Dixie National. It’s an incredible example of the American spirit and the original sport of rodeo. Top competitors from around the world will travel to our capital city in the coming weeks for shows just like this, as well as the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi River.”
The Dixie National Southern Cutting Horse Futurity show will be held Friday, January 2, through Sunday, January 4, inside the Kirk Fordice Equine Center. Rooted in the practical skills of American ranching, cutting horse shows exemplify the working partnership between horse and rider. Competitors must guide their horse to separate and control a single cow from a herd, showcasing their training and horsemanship. According to event organizers, the Southern Cutting Horse Futurity has paid out millions of dollars in prize money over the years.
Visitors to unforgettable shows at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center will also benefit from newly installed seating throughout the facility for the comfort of all attendees. Multiple equine shows, agricultural expos and livestock shows, including open shows and the annual Dixie National Junior Round-Up, will be held across the Mississippi State Fairgrounds beginning in January. Several of these events are free to attend.
“I encourage the public to get your tickets for the Dixie National Rodeo today by visiting the Coliseum Box Office or by going to www.dixienational.org online. In addition to the rodeo competitions and first-rate concerts, be sure to make plans to enjoy all the extra shows and events scheduled as part of the 2026 Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo,” continued Commissioner Gipson.
The Dixie National Rodeo takes place February 13-15 and 18-21, 2026. For more information and to purchase tickets to the Dixie National Rodeo, visit www.dixienational.org and follow the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo on Facebook, Instagram and X.
