Early in the morning on Tuesday, May 6, Deputy Garrett Gray and his K9 partner Hanz apprehended a burglary suspect after a foot chase through a wooded area.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a break-in at a home. Deputy Gray and K9 Hanz responded to the call. As they arrived, the suspect jumped from a window and took off on foot into a nearby wooded area.

The suspect, who had reportedly been released from prison only a few months ago, attempted to hide from law enforcement. Despite repeated verbal commands, he refused to surrender. K9 Hanz was deployed and quickly located and apprehended the suspect, allowing deputies to safely take him into custody.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office praised Deputy Gray and K9 Hanz for their dedication and teamwork, noting their continued commitment to keeping the community safe.

“We’re proud of this team and the hard work they do every day,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “This is another example of how K9 units play a vital role in protecting our neighborhoods.”

Hero’s both of you. Great to see a God sent Officer Hanz do his job to protect us. Now we must protect him.
