Dale Alan Shotts
(August 27, 1951 – March 2, 2023)

Dale Alan Shotts, 71 of Mendenhall, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on Monday, August 27, 1951, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Mr. Dale was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall, Mississippi.  He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was a graduate of Mendenhall High School.  He continued his education at Hinds Community College, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.  He then obtained his Master’s Degree and Specialist Degree in teaching at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi.

He was a teacher at Mendenhall Junior High School for twenty-eight years. He also served on the Simpson County School Board for ten years, served as an Alderman for eight years on the Mendenhall City Board, and a member of the Mendenhall Volunteer Fire Department for thirty plus years.

After retirement he spent time with the Mississippi Peacemakers Branch of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS).  He was an avid deer hunter, and enjoyed watching football, but most of all spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee Shotts and Vera Matthews Shotts.

Survivors include his two sons, Wes Shotts of Mendenhall, MS and Logan Franklin of Dayton, OH;  eight grandchildren, Hudson Shotts of Clinton, MS, Cooper Shotts of Mt. Juliet, TN, Adam Franklin of Dayton, OH, John Franklin of Dayton, OH, Joshua Franklin of Dayton, OH, Isabel Franklin of Dayton, OH, Samuel Franklin of Dayton, OH and Isaac Franklin of Dayton, OH; one brother, Samuel Lee Shotts of Morton, MS; one nephew, Christopher Lee Shotts of Richland, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi, and on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at First Baptist Church, 301 N. East Street, Mendenhall, Mississippi 39114.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi.  Bro. James E. Smith will officiate. Special music will be performed by Mr. Buddy Mullins. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Pallbearers will be Adam Franklin, Hudson Shotts, John McGowan, Scott Garner, Scott Rankin, and Harry Rankin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Tillman, Ed Douglas, Buddy Mullins, Mike Jones, Daniel Scotts, and Norris Shotts.
